Presented by Heather Karlie Viera of 20th Century by HKFA. Discussing the current importance of picture frames as a design element in interior space. The picture frame has long been an integral design element to both the work of art it contained as well as to the space in which it was displayed. It was often even created by the artist to be an integral part of the completed work of art! The design of these frames was a reflection of the prevailing taste of the times. The initial works had ties to benefactors, usually being the church, and were designed to recreate the architecture of their surroundings. The frame truly came into its own during the reign of Louis XIII as an ornament, a jewel. Fast forward to the late 19th and early 20th Centuries and the frame is now truly part of the overall space being crafted by the designer. Today's architects and designers have an unlimited resource in the picture frame. Choosing the correct one can elevate the value of a piece or devalue the piece, depending on choice. Let Heather Viera, a noted antiques dealer and an expert on framing share her pointers with you. Lecture and gelato cart sponsored by 20th Century by HKFA...

Tuesday, October 21st at 1:45 pm in Market Square - Antique and Design Center Lecture Room - Mezzanine Level of Historic Market Square.

September Brimfield was a real blast! I was set up and selling in space D33 in Heart-O-The-Mart with a spectacular array of fresh finds! Seeing my clients, friends, dealers, designers and plenty of other folks was fantastic, and so were the sales! Some of my favorites that I had this past September included a pair of vintage reverse painting on glass m'Chinese Ancestor' painting mirrors a pair of Frech antique carved wood etageres from RRL in the Hamptons, a folk art carved and painted foosball table, and, well, there were so many more... visit the 20th Century by HKFA social network for images. High Point Furniture Market was October 16th through the 23rd, 2014 and it was another awesome event at the Antique and Design Center. I was set up and selling in booth 34. This past Market, my theme was The Thrill of the Hunt. Once again, I had an incredible selection of 19th Century furniture and furnishings, along with the 20th Century pieces inspired by them. Thank you so very much to all of my clients who stopped by my booth these past Markets, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all again next Spring. It is always great seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones. Looking forward to staying in touch and to meeting new friends and clients. See you again at Spring Market with an all new selection of amazing antique, vintage and modern finds in furniture, art, lighting, smalls and so much more.

Additionally, this Fall I lectured on the Importance of Frames as they relate to architecture and design. My talk was Tuesday, October 21st at 1:45 in Market Square - Antique and Design Center Lecture Room - Mezzanine Level Historic Market Square.

I NY! Many thank yous to Bonnie Tsui of the New York Times for the incredible article about Fishtown featuring many local businesses - yours truly included! Any article that starts with… "Heather Karlie has an impeccable eye…" is bound to be a favorite! The yellow dinette and figural peacock, both mentioned in the article, will be featured in my booth at the Antique and Design Center of High Point. The lamps mentioned in the article are in my shop in Philadelphia. The article appeared in the New York Times October 9th, 2013 edition and also in the Sunday October 13th edition. Click here to read the full article (though I am partial to that opening line!).

After a brilliant debut at Market this past spring HKFA is back with a beautiful selection of objects from the last century.
